Clinics for assessment of children, fitting of walkers and adjustments are run by Lions Clubs in Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. The professional team, made up of specially trained physiotherapists and orthotists carry out the medical and physical needs of the children. This team is responsible for all assessments and fittings and has the only approval for making repairs and adjustments.
Lions members provide a suitable venue for clinics and host children and families attending. Co-ordinator Genny Hanning contacts parents and caregivers to make appointments. Lions members have ongoing contact with the children and families to offer support. Lions are not giving charity but are providing a service and they like families to be included. In some instances families assist in Lions projects and help with promotion and advertising.
We are currently working with 41 children and their families.
