The Temuka Lions Club recently made a presentation of a brand new 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer L S 2000 car to Alzheimer’s Society South Canterbury Inc for use by their support team who travel extensively throughout the area on a regular basis.
Fundraising by the club began in late 2013 instigated by late club member Ira Graham who had a family member with the condition.
After approaching the Alzheimer’s Society it was discovered that the car that they were currently using was an older car which was in definite need of replacement and so the seed was sown.
The club began fundraising in the form of a scrap metal collection, contacting the other Lions Clubs in South Canterbury almost all of which made a contribution to this most worthy cause.
Once the majority of the funds were raised, a successful application to the Lloyd Morgan Lions Clubs Charitable Trust was made, which enabled the club to purchase the vehicle.
Mr Graham’s wife Carole and son Peter were in attendance at the club’s regular meeting for the presentation to members of the Alzheimer’s Society. Mr Graham had learned of the purchase of the vehicle two days before his recent death.
