The Lions Clubs and Rotary Clubs of Alexandra, Cromwell and Wanaka combined together to hold a Monster Garage Sale and Auction in all three centres at the same time on Waitangi Day.
More than 300 Lions and Rotary members volunteered their time on the day. From the start time of 6am until 6pm, everybody worked tirelessly together towards a common goal to raise as much money as possible to create a new suite required at Clyde Hospital for a new CT scanner.
A huge amount of work was required before the event collecting and storing goods donated by the public, with items ranging from preserving jars to brand new cars supplied for auction from local motor vehicle dealers.
The whole day was co-ordinated by a committee of six people, with Lions Cromwell President Wayne Collie and Rotary President John Angus as Joint Chairmen and separate committees in each town. Lions and Rotary members commented on what an excellent project and occasion it was working together towards a common goal on the same day to raise a lot of money quickly for a community project.
