Lions move into Mangere Bridge

Wednesday 5th October 2011

Newest Club Charters in Style

Two years of hard work, dedication and three months of planning by the new club executive team was celebrated in Black and White style on Saturday 20 August 2011 with the Charter night of Mangere Bridge Lions Club.

Just over 100 members of the Lions family came together to welcome the newest club with a great mix of fun, fellowship and good old-fashioned Lions protocol.

Charter President Cath Imrie, on accepting the Charter from IPDG Michael Kemp, held it aloft with a jubilant “YES” - just as if she was on a winner’s podium.

There were a couple of  special  moments during the night  where the Fijian members broke into song as a way of showing, in their gentle way, their appreciation of the opportunity they have been given to be members of the Lions organisation.

Congratulations must go to Guiding Lion David Fox and his team from Papatoetoe Lions who sponsored the new club; their efforts in arranging the original meetings, and working with local people sowed the original seeds for the growth of this club.

District GMT Extension Chairman Marian Andrews, who ran the club extension workshop that this club also grew from, was always available for support and guidance during this two-year period.

The new club members will continue to be assisted by Guiding Lion David Fox and District GMT Membership Chairman Deidre Bridge.  They look forward to growing together in service to their community and the Lions Family.

"Congratulations to Charter President Cath and her team on this achievement," said Deidre. "The club would be very pleased to welcome more new members, so just ask."
