The Ngongotaha community hall came alive with a festive luncheon organised by the Ngongotaha Lions Club on Saturday 7th December.
This is the third year that the senior Christmas luncheon has been held for over 130 invited guests and helpers. Visitors were treated to punch on arrival, a two-course luncheon and give-aways generously sponsored by local businesses.
During the luncheon a variety of was music played by David Mayhew and his group. It was a great effort by the Ngongotaha Lions Club members preparing food and decorating the hall. When everyone was there, the hall was abuzz as people caught up with friends and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming with the Christmas spirit.
Later in the evening the Club celebrated its Charter Anniversary with a meal and quiz to test the members’ intelligence levels after a long day. During the evening a new Lion, Phillip Berry, was inducted to the ranks.
Scholarships were given to three students, two from Western Heights High School and one from John Paul College. Ngongotaha Lions Club presents scholarships each year to local students as they move on into University, which is a worthwhile project as we support tomorrow’s New Zealand leaders.
Scholarship winners Alice West and Kyle Layland, students from Western Heights High School, with president Jamie Paterson. Willow Sperry from John Paul College was unable to attend.
