Lions - take BOW
By Peter Knox
As I sit here in a half sort of “what the hell happened?” state and semi sort of “half awake” there are a few things that need to be said…
It has been an amazing week where everyone has given so much, from the start of Balloons over Waikato event on Wednesday when we hosted our guests from the Waikato BOP Cancer Society’s Lions Lodge (and that was special) through to Sunday with a clean-up of all the venues and the final break down of our fundraising “Walk thru Balloon” and everything in between.
Every session had Lions Vests out in numbers, filled not just with Lions but also those who have supported us. Sir George Seymour College were outstanding and assisted us greatly with numbers in both security and hospitality at the Night Glow; our Leos from Hamilton Boys High School and pupils from Fraser High School dug deep to lend a hand.
Our security teams at Night Glow were amazing and through their vigilance prevented a number of possible events happening, making sure that the event was seen in a positive light by both public and media.
We covered events at Innes Common, Tokoroa, Garden Place, Night Glow at Waikato University, Hamilton Gardens and Hobbiton. At these we auctioned, sold merchandise, raffles, took donations, ran the Walk thru Balloon, provided pack-down crews, hospitality and security services.
We have received considerable positive feedback from the organisers and will be working with them soon for a debriefing. So with all that said, there is just one more thing to say - and it hardly seems sufficient really, considering all the work that was done.
