Remuera Lions Past President, Grant McKenzie, presents the additional cheque for $50,000 to OPC Director Grant Davidson.

The OPC Gt Barrier Centre was opened by the Prime Minister Helen Clark, along with Sir Ed Hillary and windsurfing great Barbara Kendall (Patrons) on March 25, 2006.

The anticipated cost of the "Lady Hillary", the main support boat for the OPC Centre's new operation was originally envisaged to be met by the $175,200 already donated by the Remuera Lions Club (RLC), however this was based on the anticipated location being Kawau Island.

The Great Barrier was eventually the most suitable location, which required a larger and different specification of boat. The cost was above what was raised, however this did not deter RLC, and they got on with the task in hand and were able to donate a further $50,000 which will pay for the "Lady Hillary, fully fitted.

Past President Grant McKenzie, now also an OPC Trustee, presented the extra $50,000 at the AGM and Board meeting of the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre Trust at their Tongario center.

Earlier in the year, March 25th, Remuera Lions was at the opening of the Gt Barrier Centre, to which they donated $175,000.
