A free barbecue is now available for use by the Hamilton public at Swarbrick Landing, thanks to a partnership between the Lions Club of Hamilton Chartwell, the Lloyd Morgan Lions Clubs Charitable Trust, Hamilton City Council, Holcim/Allied Concrete, DHL Bricklayers Ltd and builder David Gyde. Back in the 1970s the Club played a role in the development of Swarbrick Landing, a popular riverside park. The Club decided recently that a barbecue would add to the park’s amenities.
Chartwell Lions Club co-ordinated the project and paid for the barbecue (purchased from Australia). The Hamilton City Council organised and covered the cost of laying the power cable under the car park and connecting power to the barbecue. Holcim/Allied concrete supplied the concrete and David Gyde gave expert assistance with preparing the site and the concrete work. Kevin Jury, DHL Bricklayers Ltd, supplied and laid the bricks. The City Council will meet the ongoing costs of supplying power and daily cleaning of the barbecue. The Chartwell Lions Club is most appreciative of all the assistance given to complete the barbecue that can now be enjoyed by the Hamilton public.
