“First Response Vehicle for the Rakaia Volunteer Fire Brigade”

Trust Support Amount

$15,000 NZD

The Rakaia Volunteer Fire Brigade has about 20 members.

They attend upwards of 200 callouts a year made up of Motor Vehicle accidents, Medical Calls, Vegetation Fires, Structure Fires and assistance calls to other local fire brigades.

They have a Rescue Tender Fire Truck and a single cab Rural Water Tanker.  Some call outs required more manpower than the Fire Truck could carry and they have had to look at options to transport fire fighters to incidents.

With a wait of 20 minutes or more members have been trained as Medical First Responders, it was decided to source a vehicle that would be used as a Medical First response vehicle and also provide transport of fire fighters to other incidents when extra manpower was required or to swap over crews, leaving their main appliance available for fires and motor vehicle accidents.

With funds from the Fire Brigade, Rakaia businesses, Rakaia Lions a generous discount from Isuzu Mid Canterbury, and a Grant from the Lloyd Morgan Lions Clubs Charitable Trust a vehicle was procured and fitted out as a Medical First Response Vehicle”.
