Bill Day Chairman of the Wellington Hospital Foundation & Trish Lee Wellington Hospital Volunteer Manager gladly accepted a cheque for $1,200 from Kapakapanui Lions for the second MRI Scanner, which was fundraised by the Lions putting on a fashion show at Ballentynes, Paraparaumu Beach with the support of Silverdale Outlet Store (Mens Wear).

Bill & Trish told us that the old scanner was decommissioned, because it kept breaking down, so then the government funded a new one for them.  The Foundation was asked to raise $1million for a second MRI Scanner which costs $1.4million, they were initially asked before the first one broke down, so they had been raising funds for about a year, they are near their target.

Bill told us that they recently received the scanner, which they still have to pay for, they said that it was really awkward to get it in, because of the size, a crane had to lift the scanner over the buildings, then it was pushed inside, and then they had to build a room around it.

Bill said that with the old scanner the waiting list was 6 months, that depended on whether it worked or not, now with the new ones it takes 4 to 5 weeks.  They're very happy with them.  Trish showed us a miniature model of the MRI Scanner, the real ones were being used at the time.
