Nelson’s Lions Clubs have set up a generous fund to help families affected by flooding in the Nelson and Golden Bay regions.
Zone chairman John Rodger, who oversees 10 Lions clubs around the region, said the clubs had obtained $10,000 from the Lloyd Morgan Lions Clubs Charitable Trust for a relief fund to help support needy families and clean up the damage. Lions clubs around the region were in contact with welfare centres and were getting a good indication of the level of need out there,
The fund is separate from the Mayoral Fund, and will be managed by the Lions Club on a case-by-case basis, Mr Rodger said. "We will certainly consider any application for some assistance.”
The LMLCCT had also assisted after the Canterbury earthquakes, and was about trying to get funds into emergency areas as quickly as possible, he said.
Anyone wanting to apply for assistance could go through welfare centres, or phone John Rodger, 03 542 4197.
