Club History

Service

Since 1958, members of the Wellington (Host) Lions Club have been making a difference in the lives of residents in Wellington's inner city.

We are a group of likeminded individuals who have fun serving our community through several unique projects.

Recognition

At the 2015 Lions Clubs District 202M Convention, Wellington (Host) Lions was recognised for its service by winning the District 202M Top Club Award. This award recognised that Wellington (Host) Lions had the best all round performance in District 202M and had exceeded 12 criteria including the Lions Clubs International Club Excellence Award.

District 202M is made up of 60 Lions clubs from Ruatoria on the East Coast of the North Island, down to Wellington's inner city and up to Levin on the Kapiti Coast.

Wellington (Host) Lions was also a finalist at the 2014 Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards for our Neighbourhood Support in Apartments project, which also received media coverage:

Making a Difference

Each year we have one major project in December and several smaller projects during the year.

Our major project, "The World Festival of Magic" hosts up to 7,000 children, parents and members of the community who have fun while being entertained by some of the best magicians.

Our other projects include BBQs, Foodbank Collections, Christmas Cake sales, Fashion Shows, Quiz and Movie Nights and a Neighbourhood Support initiative for Wellington's inner city residents.
