Te Awamutu Pakeke

The Te Awamutu Pakeke Lions Club was sponsored by the Lions Club of Te Awamutu and Chartered on 28th September 1981 with 33 members. Over the years the membership grew considerably but has declined more recently to sit at 30, as at the end of November 2012.

Membership is comprised of retired men and women who wish to be involved in activities for the benefit of the community and in the spirit of Lionism, and to socialise with like-minded people. A mixed gender club, widows and partners of deceased members are welcomed, and encouraged to remain active. Monthly lunch meetings are held on 3rd Monday with a guest speaker.

Fundraising is by way of a huge Christmas Stocking raffle (filled by generous donations from the business community), a mid-year wheel-barrow/grocery raffle and the sale of Lions Mints. Distribution of funds is made to local organisations at the May lunch meeting.
