I was born in Rawene quite some time ago. I am part of a large family brought up in Kawakawa and attended Kawakawa Primary School and Bay of Islands College. I am married to Kevin and we have 2 lovely children, Nathan and Emma. Nathan is married to Monique and they live in Queensland, Australia and Emma also lives there now. I have worked in the banking industry for 19 years and at the National Bank for the last 15. I was introduced to Lions in 2000 by a work colleague and friend when she moved up to Whangarei from Rotorua and I joined Whangarei Metropolitan Club. I was President of Whangarei Hatea in 2006 – 2007 and carried on for a second year. In 2007-08 I first served on Cabinet as Zone Chairman then in 2008-09 as Cabinet Treasurer. In 2010-11 I served as Cabinet Treasurer and also 2nd Vice District Governor. In the past 12 months (2011-12) I was 1st Vice District Governor and on June 26th in Busan, Korea became the 6th District Governor for District 202K. I am a also a member of the Whangarei Embroiderers Guild and in what little spare time I have, I enjoy needlework & sewing and am an avid reader. My claim to fame – my niece Cathrine Latu pays netball for the Northern Mystics.
District 202K is the northernmost district of New Zealand, stretching from the Coromandel Penisula through Auckland City to Cape Reinga in the north, and includes the Pacific islands of Samoa, American Samoa, Fiji & Tonga within its boundaries. It is therefore a very diverse district ranging from city communities to quite economically challenged communities. The District has approximately 2,000 members spread through 88 clubs.
The District has the greatest number of Leos clubs for New Zealand. Leos are a junior branch of Lions sponsored by individual Lions clubs - most being attached to intermediate or secondary schools. These Leos are involved in projects within their local area of influence/communities thus giving younger members of our society an understanding of the need to help others.
